About ISTQB
The ISTQB (International Software Testing Qualifications Board) was founded in Edinburgh, UK in November 2002. ISTQB A.I.S.B.L is as a legal entity based in Belgium.
The ISTQB is responsible for the professional Software Quality Assurance international qualification - “ISTQB Certified Tester”. The certification is based on rigorous, internationally developed syllabi, with a hierarchy of qualifications and guidelines for accreditation and examination to enable individuals and organizations to achieve the highest levels of proficiency in software quality.
It is the ISTQB’s role to support a single, universally accepted, international qualification for software testing professionals by providing a core syllabi and setting guidelines for accreditation and examination for national boards.
Competent training providers provide courses that cover the content of each syllabus. These training providers are accredited by a recognized national board. The courses are globally marketed under the brand name “ISTQB Certified Tester”. Each course is concluded by an examination covering the contents of the syllabus. After completing the examination, each successful participant is awarded the “ISTQB Certified Tester” certificate (or the local variant with the added “ISTQB compliant” logo).
The ISTQB defines the regulations for the accreditation and certification processes; these regulations govern the national boards. Currently, there are 45 national boards approved by the ISTQB (http://www.istqb.org/istqb-where-you-are/your-local-member-board.html).
